Shock insulating door system and method

A method of reducing electrical discharge in a door system comprising:

• extruding an electrically conductive frame member of a sliding door panel, the electrically conductive frame member forming at least a portion of a perimeter of the sliding door panel and configured to slide within an opening, the electrically conductive frame member comprising a first material and having a leading edge configured to slide into abutment with a surface adjacent to the sliding door panel, a trailing edge, and opposing sides connecting the leading edge to the trailing edge, wherein at least one side of the opposing sides includes a ridge protruding outward and extending along a length of the electrically conductive frame member;
• extruding an electrically insulating cover with a cross-sectional shape generally corresponding to a cross-sectional shape of the electrically conductive frame member, wherein the electrically insulating cover comprises a second material and includes a groove formed into an interior surface of the electrically insulating cover and extending along a length of the electrically insulating cover, the groove configured to receive the ridge to retain the electrically insulating cover on the electrically conductive frame member;
• and
• encasing at least a portion of the electrically conductive frame member with the electrically insulating cover, wherein the electrically insulating cover is configured to encase the leading edge of the electrically conductive frame member and at least a portion of the trailing edge, opposite the leading edge, of the electrically conductive frame member.
