Abstract
A method utilizes a natural juice as a reaction medium and catalyst for the reaction between an amine and an organic compound to form a pyrrole. The method includes reacting an amine with an organic compound in a condensation reaction in which the juice functions as an organic catalyst.
Claims14
A juice-based method for reacting an amine and an organic compound to form a pyrrole, comprising:
- mixing an amine of formula (2) with a compound of formula (3) in the absence of a solvent to form a reactant mixture,
- adding a juice from a fruit of a plant in the genus Malus to the reactant mixture and agitating,
- reacting the amine of formula (2) with the compound of formula (3) form a product mixture containing a pyrrole of formula (1),
- wherein the reacting includes mixing in a biphasic medium,
- wherein R1 and R2 together form a five-, six-, or seven-membered ring with the carbon atoms to which they are attached;
- and
- wherein R3 is an optionally substituted aryl.
