A process of preparing (E)-1,1,1,4,5,5,5-heptafluoro-4-(trifluoromethyl)pent-2-ene, comprising reacting hexafluoroprop-1-ene with 1,3,3,3-tetrafluoroprop-1-ene in the presence of an acid catalyst, wherein the acid catalyst is a Lewis acid catalyst.
