System and method for multi-modal dosing device

A multi-modal product dosing system with cross-modality tracking and lockout, characterized by a control base having a housing at least partially enclosing a cartridge receiver, a cartridge reader, at least one lockout deactivator, a wireless transceiver and a controller structured and arranged to operate the cartridge reader, the at least one lockout deactivator and the wireless transceiver to communicate information with at least one remote computing device, the control base structured and arranged to couple to one of a plurality of different cartridges, each cartridge remaining at least partially external to the housing of the control base and at least two cartridges having different modalities of delivery for a product contained therein, each of the plurality of cartridges characterized by:

• a housing at least partially enclosing:
• a reservoir of product;
• a dispenser structured and arranged to dispense a predetermined amount of product by a predetermined modality of delivery, at least a portion of the dispenser external to the housing of the control base;
• at least one data chip structured and arranged to store data regarding the cartridge;
• a unique identifier associated with the cartridge and the product, the unique identifier structured and arranged to be determined by the control base;
• at least one electrical contact to receive power from the control base for activation of the dispenser;
• and
• at least one lockout mechanism structured and arranged to lockout the dispenser to prevent dispensation of the product even when the cartridge is coupled to the control base, unless the lockout mechanism of the cartridge is disengaged by the lockout deactivator of the control base, and wherein activation of any cartridge following a completed administration of product is inhibited unless authorized.

A multi-modal product dosing system with cross-modality tracking and lockout, characterized by a control base having a housing at least partially enclosing a cartridge receiver, a cartridge reader, at least one lockout deactivator, a wireless transceiver and a controller structured and arranged to operate the cartridge reader, the at least one lockout deactivator and the wireless transceiver to communicate information with at least one remote computing device, the control base structured and arranged to couple to one of a plurality of different cartridges, each cartridge remaining at least partially external to the housing of the control base and at least two cartridges having different modalities of delivery for a product contained therein, each of the plurality of cartridges characterized by:

• a housing at least partially enclosing:
• a reservoir of product;
• a dispenser structured and arranged to dispense a predetermined amount of product by a predetermined modality of delivery, at least a portion of the dispenser external to the housing of the control base;
• at least one opening from which the product is dispensed to the user, the cartridge having an internal conduit between the reservoir and the at least one opening, the conduit separate from the control base;
• at least one data chip structured and arranged to store data regarding the cartridge;
• a unique identifier associated with the cartridge and the product, the unique identifier structured and arranged to be determined by the control base;
• at least one electrical contact to receive power from the control base for activation of the dispenser;
• and
• at least one lockout mechanism structured and arranged to lockout the dispenser to prevent dispensation of the product even when the cartridge is coupled to the control base, unless the lockout mechanism of the cartridge is disengaged by the lockout deactivator of the control base, and wherein activation of any cartridge following a completed administration of product is inhibited unless authorized.
