Abstract
The present disclosure generally relates to compositions containing percitric acid, treatment fluids containing such compositions and methods of using the treatment fluids during various oil- and gas-field operations including hydraulic fracturing, remediation, production, disposal well chemistry and cleaning equipment both above surface and downhole used in connection with oil- and gas-field operations.
Claims19
A method for degrading a polymer from a subterranean formation in fluid communication with a wellbore, wherein the method comprises:
- contacting citric acid and hydrogen peroxide to form a composition comprising percitric acid, wherein contacting citric acid and hydrogen peroxide to form a composition comprising percitric acid further comprises contacting citric acid and hydrogen peroxide and a base to form a composition comprising a conjugate base of percitric acid;
- adding one or more chemical additives to the composition to define a treatment fluid, wherein the percitric acid is present in an amount from about 0.001 wt. % to about 70 wt. %, based on the total weight of the treatment fluid, wherein the treatment fluid is substantially free of peracetic acid and performic acid;
- injecting the treatment fluid into the wellbore;
- and
- contacting the polymer with the treatment fluid for an effective amount time to degrade the polymer.
A method for degrading a polymer from a subterranean formation in fluid communication with a wellbore, wherein the method comprises:
- contacting citric acid and hydrogen peroxide to form a composition comprising percitric acid;
- adding one or more chemical additives to the composition to define a treatment fluid, wherein the percitric acid is present in an amount from about 0.001 wt. % to about 70 wt. %, based on the total weight of the treatment fluid;
- injecting the treatment fluid into the wellbore;
- and
- contacting the polymer with the treatment fluid for an effective amount time to degrade the polymer,
- wherein contacting citric acid and hydrogen peroxide to form a composition comprising percitric acid comprises contacting citric acid and hydrogen peroxide and a base to form a composition comprising a conjugate base of percitric acid.
A method for preventing a polymer-polyvalent metal ion complex deposit from forming during an oil- and gas-field operation, wherein the method comprises:
- injecting a treatment fluid into a wellbore in fluid communication with a subterranean formation, wherein the treatment fluid comprises citric acid, hydrogen peroxide, and a base forming a composition comprising percitric acid and a conjugate base of percitric acid present in an amount from about 0.001 wt. % to about 70 wt. %, based on the total weight of the treatment fluid and one more chemical additives, and wherein at least one of the wellbore or the subterranean formation contains a polymer and the polyvalent metal ion;
- and
- allowing the treatment fluid to interact with the polymer and the polyvalent metal ion for an effective amount of time to prevent the polymer and polyvalent metal ion from complexing and depositing within at least one of the wellbore and the subterranean formation.
