Abstract
Systems and methods are disclosed for dynamic adhesive application for roll-formed containers. In one embodiment, an example system may include a first conveyor configured to convey a packaging material, and an adhesive application system configured to apply adhesive to the packaging material, the adhesive application system having an adhesive applicator configured to dispense adhesive, and an applicator support assembly configured to support the adhesive applicator. The adhesive support assembly may be configured to move the adhesive applicator in two dimensions, where the adhesive application system can apply adhesive along three edges of the packaging material.
Claims19
An item packing station comprising:
- a first conveyor configured to transport an item for packing;
- a second conveyor configured to transport packaging material, wherein the second conveyor is disposed adjacent to the first conveyor and both the first conveyor and the second conveyor move at substantially the same speed;
- and
- an adhesive application system configured to apply adhesive to the packaging material, the adhesive application system comprising:
- an adhesive applicator configured to dispense adhesive;
- and
- an applicator support assembly configured to support the adhesive applicator, wherein the adhesive support assembly is configured to move the adhesive applicator in two dimensions;
- wherein the adhesive application system applies adhesive along three edges of the packaging material;
- and
- wherein the second conveyor continuously conveys the packaging material while the adhesive is being applied to the packaging material;
- and
- wherein the packaging material comprises a first pair of crease lines disposed along a length of the packaging material, and a Y-shaped pattern disposed at a first end of the packaging material, and wherein at least a portion of the Y-shaped pattern extends over each line of the first pair of crease lines.
A system to produce a roll-formed container, the system comprising:
- a first conveyor configured to convey a packaging material;
- and
- an adhesive application system configured to apply adhesive to the packaging material, the adhesive application system comprising:
- an adhesive applicator configured to dispense adhesive;
- and
- an applicator support assembly configured to support the adhesive applicator, wherein the applicator support assembly is configured to move the adhesive applicator in two dimensions, wherein the applicator support assembly comprises:
- a first member;
- a second member disposed transverse to the first member and configured to move with respect to the first member;
- and
- a bracket coupled to the second member and configured to slide along the second member, wherein the adhesive applicator is coupled to the bracket;
- wherein the adhesive application system applies adhesive along three edges of the packaging material.
A system to produce a roll-formed container, the system comprising:
- a first conveyor configured to convey a packaging material;
- and
- an adhesive application system configured to apply adhesive to the packaging material, the adhesive application system comprising:
- an adhesive applicator configured to dispense adhesive;
- and
- an applicator support assembly configured to support the adhesive applicator, wherein the applicator support assembly is configured to move the adhesive applicator in two dimensions;
- a set of supports configured to create inward-facing gussets at an end of the roll-formed container, wherein the set of supports is configured to be actuated laterally towards the packaging material;
- wherein the adhesive application system applies adhesive along three edges of the packaging material.
