Abstract
A variety of methods, systems, devices and arrangements are implemented for emergency call centers. According to one such method, a location database is populated from a plurality of endpoint devices. The location database determines locations for nodes in a data transmission route from information received from the endpoint devices. Emergency calls using these nodes are located using the populated database.

A system comprising:
- one or more servers configured to provide data communications services, including Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications and at least one other type of Internet Protocol (IP) based communications;
- and
- computer-processor circuitry integrated with or coupled to the one or more servers and to process location-information data received from user-operable VoIP-capable endpoint devices (“endpoint devices”) via communications circuits forming part of the respective endpoint devices, wherein the endpoint devices include a first endpoint device that communicates via the data communications services by way of a transmission path that includes multiple nodes, each of the multiple nodes being an identifiable data transmission circuit to convey data between the first endpoint device and the one or more servers along the transmission path, wherein the computer-processor circuitry is to:
- determine, for each of the multiple nodes in the transmission path, a corresponding physical location as a function of respective identification data for the multiple nodes in the transmission path and as a function of a logical distance between said each of the multiple nodes and the first endpoint device;
- obtain, for each of the multiple nodes and in response to the determined corresponding physical location, a weight that corresponds to a confidence level that the respective determined physical location is likely correct as being an actual physical location of the first endpoint device;
- and
- adjust, in response to subsequently-obtained location information indicative of the actual physical location of the first endpoint device, a determined physical location for at least one of the multiple nodes being associated with a confidence level below a threshold confidence level.
A method comprising:
- via one or more servers, providing data communications services, including Voice-over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications and at least one other type of Internet Protocol (IP) based communications to user-operable endpoint devices (“endpoint devices”) via communications circuits forming part of the respective endpoint devices, wherein the endpoint devices include a first endpoint device that communicates via the data communications services by way of a transmission path that includes multiple nodes, each of the multiple nodes being an identifiable data transmission circuit to convey data between the first endpoint device and the one or more servers along the transmission path;
- and
- via computer-processor circuitry integrated with or coupled to the one or more servers:
- processing location-information data received from the endpoint devices;
- determining, for each of the multiple nodes in the transmission path, a corresponding physical location as a function of respective identification data for the multiple nodes in the transmission path and as a function of a logical distance between said each of the multiple nodes and the first endpoint device;
- obtaining, for each of the multiple nodes and in response to the determined corresponding physical location, a weight that corresponds to a confidence level that the respective determined physical location is likely correct as being an actual physical location of the first endpoint device;
- and
- adjusting, in response to subsequent location information, a determined physical location for at least one of the multiple nodes being associated with a confidence level below a threshold confidence level.
An apparatus for use in a system having a set of one or more servers to provide different types of data communications services including sending and receiving packets to user-operable endpoint devices (“endpoint devices”), the apparatus comprising:
- computer-processor circuitry integrated with or coupled to the set of one or more servers and to process location-information data received from the user-operable endpoint devices via communications circuits forming part of the respective endpoint devices, wherein the endpoint devices include a first endpoint device that communicates via the data communications services by way of a transmission path that includes multiple nodes, each of the multiple nodes being an identifiable data transmission circuit to convey data between the first endpoint device and the one or more servers along the transmission path, wherein the computer-processor circuitry is to:
- determine, for each of the multiple nodes in the transmission path, a corresponding physical location as a function of respective identification data for the multiple nodes in the transmission path and as a function of a logical distance between said each of the multiple nodes and the first endpoint device;
- obtain or determine, for each of the multiple nodes and in response to the determined corresponding physical location, a weight that corresponds to a confidence level that the respective determined physical location is likely correct as being an actual physical location of the first endpoint device;
- and
- adjust, in response to subsequent location information, a determined physical location for at least one of the multiple nodes being associated with a confidence level below a threshold confidence level.
