Abstract
An implant to retain facial or dental prostheses includes a bone-engaging portion, a transmucosal portion, and an abutment portion. The bone-engaging portion of the implant includes a longitudinally extending distal portion formed of a conformal microscale cell structure and, optionally, a non-biological coating. The transmucosal portion includes a plurality of micro holes. The abutment portion of the implant may be polished to a mirrored or super-mirrored finish.
Claims17
A one-piece patient-customized dental implant comprising:
- a bone engaging portion positioned at a distal end of the implant, the bone engaging portion comprising a longitudinally extending distal portion having a screw form;
- a transmucosal portion;
- and
- an abutment portion positioned at a proximal end of the transmucosal portion,
- wherein the bone engaging portion, the transmucosal portion, and the abutment portion form a single component without any form of fixing therebetween,
- the bone engaging portion includes an exterior surface that includes a conformal cell structure with cells having different geometries,
- the cells having the different geometries of the conformal cell structure include:
- a first cell directly adjacent to a second cell on the exterior surface of the bone engaging portion,
- the first cell has a first geometry,
- the second cell has a second geometry,
- the first geometry of the first cell is different than the second geometry of the second cell such that a relative angle of the exterior surface at the first cell and the second cell are different,
- the first cell and the second cell include cell-to-cell geometric variability so that the cells conform to the exterior surface of the bone engaging portion,
- the first cell and second cell are hexahedral cells, and
- the first geometry and second geometry are defined by different sets of nodes and different distances between respective pairs of nodes such that the first cell and second cell conform to a curved portion of the exterior surface of the bone engaging portion.
