Abstract
Methods and systems for managing power consumption of network devices are disclosed. An example method can comprise detecting a triggering condition and reducing functionality of a network device based on detecting the triggering condition. The method can comprise detecting, at the network device, a user device, restoring functionality of the network device in response to detecting the user device, and transmitting information to the user device after restoring functionality of the network device.
Claims18
A method comprising:
- storing a plurality of time stamps representative of communication activities;
- storing a plurality of time stamps representative of processing activities;
- storing a plurality of time stamps representative of adjusting power levels;
- storing a plurality of time stamps representative of adjusting functionality levels associated with the access point;
- storing a plurality of time stamps representative of transmitting and receiving with network devices;
- reducing power consumption of a first component of an access point;
- restoring, based on the reduced power consumption of the first component of the access point, power consumption of a second component of the access point;
- determining, via a timing unit of the access point, a time window based at least in part on an activity history comprising the stored plurality of time stamps representative of communication activities, the stored plurality of time stamps representative of processing activities, the stored plurality of time stamps representative of adjusting power levels, the stored plurality of time stamps representative of adjusting functionality levels associated with the access point, and the stored plurality of time stamps representative of transmitting and receiving with the network devices;
- reducing, based on the time window, the power consumption of the second component of the access point;
- and
- restoring, based on the reduced power consumption of the second component of the access point, the power consumption of the first component of the access point.
A system comprising:
- a first component of an access point;
- a second component of the access point;
- a timing unit of the access point;
- and
- a control circuitry configured to:
- store a plurality of time stamps representative of communication activities;
- store a plurality of time stamps representative of processing activities;
- store a plurality of time stamps representative of adjusting power levels;
- store a plurality of time stamps representative of adjusting functionality levels associated with the access point;
- store a plurality of time stamps representative of transmitting and receiving with network devices;
- reduce power consumption of the first component of the access point;
- restore, based on the reduced power consumption of the first component of the access point, power consumption of the second component of the access point;
- wherein the timing unit of the access point is configured to determine a time window based at least in part on an activity history comprising the stored plurality of time stamps representative of communication activities, the stored plurality of time stamps representative of processing activities, the stored plurality of time stamps representative of adjusting power levels, the stored plurality of time stamps representative of adjusting functionality levels associated with the access point, and the stored plurality of time stamps representative of transmitting and receiving with the network devices;
- wherein the control circuitry is further configured to:
- reduce, based on the time window, the power consumption of the second component of the access point;
- and
- restore, based on the reduced power consumption of the second component of the access point, the power consumption of the first component of the access point.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising program instructions, wherein the program instructions, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to:
- store a plurality of time stamps representative of communication activities;
- store a plurality of time stamps representative of processing activities;
- store a plurality of time stamps representative of adjusting power levels:
- store a plurality of time stamps representative of adjusting functionality levels associated with the access point;
- store a plurality of time stamps representative of transmitting and receiving with network devices;
- reduce power consumption of a first component of an access point;
- restore, based on the reduced power consumption of the first component, power consumption of a second component of the access point;
- determine, via a timing unit of the access point, a time window based at least in part on an activity history comprising the stored plurality of time stamps representative of communication activities, the stored plurality of time stamps representative of processing activities, the stored plurality of time stamps representative of adjusting power levels, the stored plurality of time stamps representative of adjusting functionality levels associated with the access point, and the stored plurality of time stamps representative of transmitting and receiving with the network devices;
- reduce, based on the time window, the power consumption of the second component of the access point;
- and
- restore, based on the reduced power consumption of the second component of the access point, the power consumption of the first component of the access point.
