Abstract
The present disclosure describes an intervertebral implant having a laterovertically-expanding shell operable for a reversible expansion from a collapsed state into an expanded state, the laterovertically-expanding shell having one or more connectors, and a pair of lateral extension elements that function to laterally expand the footprint of the implant within an intervertebral disc space.
Claims13
A surgical implant having a combination of materials combined in layers, comprising:
- an expandable shell having a distal region and configured for placement within an intervertebral space, the shell having a layered assembly that includes a central body and a plurality of surface layers;
- wherein
- the central body comprises a first pair of support beams configured to move laterally away from a second pair of support beams, each support beam of said first pair of support beams having an outer edge and a lateral extension element extending from said outer edge in a direction away from said second pair of support beams such that each support beam of said first pair of support beams has a width dimension that is greater than a width dimension of each support beam of said second pair of support beams;
- the central body has a top face and a bottom face, and is configured to associate with the plurality of surface layers;
- the plurality of surface layers has a top surface layer and a bottom surface layer, the top surface layer configured to associate with the top face of the central body and form a first body portion configured to engage a first vertebral endplate;
- and the bottom surface layer configured to associate with the bottom face of the central body and form a second body portion configured to engage a second vertebral endplate;
- wherein the central body and the plurality of surface layers comprise different materials.
