Abstract
A lighting apparatus is provided having one or more light emitting diodes arranged in a row. The light emitting diodes may be supported by an elongated body. The elongated body may comprise an optical element formed from an at least partially optically transmissive material. The lighting apparatus has two ends and may have electrical connectors at the ends.
Claims20
A lamp comprising:
- an elongated body coupled to first and second end caps, each of the first and second end caps including first and second electrical connectors, wherein the elongated body includes:
- a supporting optical element disposed opposite of a redirecting optical element to define an enclosure for a plurality of light emitting diodes that are supported along an upward-facing surface of the supporting optical element,
- wherein first and second planar edge portions of the supporting optical element are connected to the redirecting optical element, such that the plurality of light emitting diodes are completely contained within the enclosure,
- wherein the redirecting optical element includes an at least partially reflective surface disposed opposite of the plurality of light emitting diodes for redirecting light emitted by the plurality of light emitting diodes toward the supporting optical element,
- wherein the supporting optical element is formed from an at least partially optically transmissive material comprising a phosphor that is configured to convert a portion of light emitted by the plurality of light emitting diodes to a longer wavelength, and
- wherein a portion of the supporting optical element transfers heat from the plurality of light emitting diodes to an ambient environment.
