Abstract
Transgenic host cells, vectors useful for making transgenic host cells, and kits useful for making transgenic host cells are described. Also described are transgenic plants. In some embodiments, transgenic host cells express a 4-hydroxyphenylacetaldehyde synthase (4HPAAS). In some embodiments, transgenic host cells express a tyrosol:UDP-glucose 8-O-glucosyltransferase (T8GT). The transgenic host cells are useful for biosynthesis of one or more of salidroside, icariside D2, tyrosol, and 4-hydroxypenylacetaldehyde.
Claims21
A host cell comprising a transgene encoding a heterologous tyrosol:UDP-glucose 8-O-glucosyltransferase (T8GT) operably linked to a promoter, wherein the T8GT comprises an amino acid sequence having at least 95% identity to one or more of SEQ ID NO:
- 14, SEQ ID NO:
- 16, SEQ ID NO:
- 18, and SEQ ID NO:
- 20.
A method of producing tyrosol 8-O-glucoside (salidroside), wherein the method comprises inserting into a host cell a transgene that encodes a tyrosol:UDP-glucose 8-O-glucosyltransferase (T8GT), wherein the transgene is operably linked to a promoter, and wherein the T8GT comprises an amino acid sequence having at least 95% identity to one or more of SEQ ID NO:
- 14, SEQ ID NO:
- 16, SEQ ID NO:
- 18, and SEQ ID NO:
- 20;
- and culturing the host cell in a culture media comprising tyrosol.
