Abstract
A battery pack has bus bars at one end, freeing the other end of the battery pack for cooling or other arrangements. A plurality of battery cells has first terminals of the battery cells at first ends of the battery cells. Portions of second terminals of the battery cells are at the first ends of the battery cells. The first ends of the battery cells are in a coplanar arrangement. A plurality of bus bars is assembled proximate to the first ends of the battery cells. The bus bars are coupled to the first terminals and the second terminals of the battery cells at the first ends of the battery cells to place the battery cells in one of a series connection, a parallel connection or a series and parallel connection.
Claims27
An electric vehicle apparatus comprising:
- a battery pack comprising:
- a holder having a first side and a second side, and
- a plurality of batteries disposed within the holder, wherein each of the batteries in the plurality of batteries comprises a positive and negative terminal at a first end, and a second end opposite the first end, and such that the batteries are aligned to have the respective first end of each battery adjacent to the first end of adjacent batteries, and the respective second end of each battery adjacent to the second end of adjacent batteries;
- a first bus bar comprising a plurality of positive-conducting fingers extending from a length of the first bus bar, wherein the positive-conducting fingers are spaced apart from one another, and are connected to the positive terminals of the first set of batteries;
- and
- a second bus bar comprising a plurality of negative-conducting fingers extending from a length of the second bus bar, wherein the negative-conducting fingers are spaced apart from one another, and are connected to the negative terminals of the first set of batteries, wherein the positive conducting fingers of the first bust bar and the negative-conducting fingers of the second bus bar are coplanar and are interleaved with each other.
An electric vehicle apparatus comprising:
- a battery pack comprising:
- a holder having a first side and a second side, and
- a plurality of batteries disposed within the holder, wherein each of the batteries in the plurality of batteries comprises a positive and negative terminal at a first end, and a second end opposite the first end, and such that the batteries are aligned to have the respective first end of each battery adjacent to the first end of adjacent batteries, and the respective second end of each battery adjacent to the second end of adjacent batteries;
- a plurality of bus bars arranged adjacent to one another above the first ends of the plurality of batteries, each bus bar in the plurality of bus bars comprising a fingers extending from a length of the bus bar, such that the fingers of the bus bars extend towards the length of the bus bar adjacent to the bus bar such that the fingers of each of the plurality of bus bars are coplanar to, aligned parallel to, interleaved with, and spaced apart from the fingers of the separate bus bar or bus bars adjacent to it;
- wherein a first bus bar and second bus bar of the plurality of bus bars are adjacent to each other and the fingers of the first and second bus bars that extend towards each other are connected to a first set of batteries of the plurality of batteries such that the batteries in the first set of batteries are connected in parallel with each other by the first and second bus bars.
An electric vehicle apparatus comprising:
- a battery pack comprising:
- a holder having a first side and a second side, and
- a plurality of batteries disposed within the holder, wherein each of the batteries in the plurality of batteries comprises a positive and negative terminal at a first end, and a second end opposite the first end, and such that the batteries are aligned to have the respective first end of each battery adjacent to the first end of adjacent batteries, and the respective second end of each battery adjacent to the second end of adjacent batteries;
- a plurality of bus bars arranged adjacent to one another above the first ends of the plurality of batteries, each of the bus bars in the plurality of bus bars comprising fingers extending from a length of the respective bus bar, such that the fingers of each bus bar extends towards the length of the bus bar adjacent to the bus bar, such that the fingers of each bus bar are coplanar with, interleaved with, and spaced apart from the fingers of the separate bus bar or bus bars adjacent to the bus bar and arranged such that the positive terminals of at least some of the batteries are exposed through the gaps between the interleaved fingers;
- wherein a first bus bar and second bus bar of the plurality of bus bars are adjacent to each other and the fingers of the first bus bar and the second bus bar that extend towards each other are connected to a first set of batteries of the plurality of batteries such that the batteries in the first set of batteries are connected in parallel with each other by the first and second bus bars.
