Method for evaluating foamability with a fritted test apparatus

A vertical column method for evaluating foamability of a test solution, comprising:

• forming a foam in a vertical measurement column comprising an open top end and a fritted plate proximal to a bottom end by passing a gas stream through the fritted plate and through the test solution present in the vertical measurement column at a gas volume rate (GVR) and a gas flow rate (GFR), wherein the foam travels upwards in the vertical measurement column while the gas stream is passing through the test solution, wherein the fritted plate has a first stage and a second stage, wherein the first stage comprises a porous fritted glass material, and the second stage, positioned adjacent to the first stage, comprises a woven mesh layer;
• measuring the viscosity of the foam with a vibration viscometer disposed proximal to the top end of the vertical measurement column;
• recording a plurality of vibration viscometer measurement results over time and storing the plurality of vibration viscometer measurement results in memory;
• and
• determining one or more foam properties of the test solution based on the plurality of vibration viscometer measurement results over time, a surfactant amount Csurf, the gas volume rate (GVR), and the gas flow rate (GFR):
• further characterizing the foamability of the test solution as good when an initial viscosity measurement (Vi) of the test solution is above 20 cP.
