Abstract
Methods for manufacturing an impeller wheel assembly (e.g., an impeller wheel attached to one or more additional components) are provided. In one example, a method includes casting an impeller wheel without a hub feature in a mold and holding the cast impeller wheel in a fixed position using a holding plate during subsequent stages of fabrication (e.g., the addition of a shaft via friction welding).
Claims7
A system, comprising:
- a back face of an impeller wheel, opposite an exducer side, comprising a plurality of recesses interlocked with a plurality of bosses on a first face of a holding plate, wherein each recess is shaped via interconnected edges of adjacent blades of the impeller wheel, and wherein each boss of the plurality of bosses is positioned between adjacent blades of the impeller wheel.
