An aqueous inside spray food or beverage can coating composition, the coating composition comprising:
- a resin system comprising an emulsion polymerized acrylic latex, wherein the resin system is at least partially preformed;
- an alkali-soluble resin additive comprising an at least partially neutralized acid- or anhydride-functional organic solution polymerized acrylic polymer formed from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer component including an ethylenically unsaturated acid-functional monomer and a (meth)acrylate;
- and
- a nitrogen-containing carboxyl-reactive crosslinker;
- wherein the coating composition comprises a physical blend of the emulsion polymerized acrylic latex and the alkali-soluble resin additive;
- and
- wherein the coating composition includes more than 50 wt-% of the emulsion polymerized acrylic latex, based on the total resin solids weight of the coating composition.
An aqueous inside spray beverage can coating composition, the coating composition comprising:
- more than 50 weight percent, based on total resin solids, of an at least partially neutralized acid- or anhydride-functional emulsion polymerized acrylic latex having a Tg of greater than 20° C.;
- an alkali-soluble resin additive comprising an at least partially neutralized acid- or anhydride-functional organic solution polymerized acrylic polymer formed from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer component including an ethylenically unsaturated acid-functional monomer and a (meth)acrylate;
- a beta-hydroxyalkylamide crosslinker;
- and
- an aqueous carrier comprising more than 5 weight percent of one or more organic solvents;
- and wherein the coating composition is substantially free of each of styrene and bisphenol A and comprises a physical blend of the emulsion polymerized acrylic latex and the alkali-soluble resin additive;
- wherein the emulsion polymerized acrylic latex is at least partially preformed.
An aqueous inside spray food or beverage can coating composition, the coating composition comprising:
- a resin system comprising an emulsion polymerized acrylic latex;
- an alkali-soluble resin additive comprising an at least partially neutralized acid- or anhydride-functional organic solution polymerized acrylic polymer formed from an ethylenically unsaturated monomer component including an ethylenically unsaturated acid-functional monomer and a (meth)acrylate;
- and
- a nitrogen-containing carboxyl-reactive crosslinker;
- wherein the coating composition comprises a physical blend of a preformed resin system and the alkali-soluble resin additive;
- and
- wherein the coating composition includes more than 50 wt-% of the emulsion polymerized acrylic latex, based on the total resin solids weight of the coating composition.
An aqueous coating composition suitable for use in forming an adherent thermoset coating onto a metal substrate, the coating composition comprising:
- an aqueous carrier containing greater than 5% by weight of one or more organic solvents based on the weight of the aqueous carrier;
- a resin system comprising an emulsion polymerized acrylic latex;
- and
- an alkali-soluble resin additive having a number average molecular weight of at least 1,000;
- wherein the coating composition comprises a physical blend of a preformed resin system and the alkali-soluble resin additive;
- and
- wherein the coating composition includes more than 50 wt-% of the emulsion polymerized acrylic latex, based on the total resin solids weight of the coating composition.
