A method and a system for inspecting a vehicle comprising initiating an inspection method, from a processor device of a user terminal placed near the vehicle, the user terminal comprising an augmented reality display, the processor device, and a communication interface capable of establishing a short range communications link with a communications interface of an electronic controller of the vehicle; determining the user location relative to the vehicle, using the short-range communications link established between the user terminal and the vehicle; sending, to the electronic controller of the vehicle, a request to automatically test the operation of a testable component of the vehicle, based on the determined user location; and acquiring, by the user terminal, a test result observed by the user in response to the automatic test of the testable component of the vehicle.
