Abstract
The present disclosure sets forth a motion sensing outdoor security light with the flexibility of being mounted to either a wall structure or to an eave or ceiling structure. An adjustable spherical motion sensor housing may be provided with the rotationally adjustable outdoor security light, allowing easy adjustment of motion detection ranges under different mounting schemes without comprising the aesthetic design of the light. The adjustable spherical motion sensor housing may also provide an enlarged horizontal field of view for better performance.
Claims32
A spherical motion sensor housing adjustably mounted on an outdoor security light canopy, comprising:
- a spherical shroud having a lens opening, a vertical field of view opening, and a horizontal field of view opening, the vertical field of view opening and the horizontal field of view opening in opposing axis relationship;
- a lens covering the lens opening of the spherical shroud;
- and
- a motion detection unit mounted within the spherical shroud, the motion detection unit having an optical field of view for motion detection through the lens covering the lens opening,
- wherein the optical field of view for the motion detection unit includes the horizontal field of view and the vertical field of view;
- wherein the vertical field of view of the motion detection unit defines a first field of view opening and the horizontal field of view of the motion detection unit defines a second field of view opening.
A spherical motion sensor housing, comprising:
- a spherical shroud including a front facing hemisphere and a rear facing hemisphere,
- a lens opening extending along an ellipsoid of the front facing hemisphere, wherein the lens opening corresponds with a vertical field of view opening and a horizontal field of view opening;
- wherein the vertical field of view opening defines a first field of view opening and wherein the horizontal field of view opening defines a second field of view opening;
- a motion detection unit mounted within the spherical shroud, the motion detection unit having an optical field of view through the lens opening for motion detection,
- wherein the optical field of view for the motion detection unit corresponds with the first field of view opening and the second field of view opening.
A spherical motion sensor housing, comprising:
- a spherical shroud including a front facing hemisphere, wherein the front facing hemisphere includes a vertical field of view opening having a vertical field of view and a horizontal field of view opening having a horizontal field of view;
- a lens opening extending along an ellipsoid of the front facing hemisphere;
- a motion detection unit mounted within the spherical shroud, the motion detection unit having an optical field of view, including the vertical field of view and the horizontal field of view, through the lens opening for motion detection,
- wherein the ellipsoid is defined by one or more portions of the front facing hemisphere.
An adjustable spherical motion sensor housing mounted on an outdoor security light, comprising:
- a spherical shroud including an lens opening, a vertical field of view opening portion and a horizontal field of view portion, the vertical field of view portion and the horizontal field of view portion in opposing axis relationship;
- a lens covering the lens opening of the spherical shroud;
- a motion detection unit mounted within the spherical shroud;
- an adjustment mechanism facilitating adjustment of the adjustable spherical motion sensor housing within one or more axis;
- and
- wherein the vertical field of view portion is a more limited field of view than the horizontal field of view and limited by at least one inwardly directed structure of the lens opening, the inwardly directed structure of the lens opening restricting the vertical field of view portion.
An adjustable spherical motion sensor housing mounted to an outdoor security light, comprising:
- a spherical shroud having a lens opening, the lens opening having a vertical field of view and a horizontal field of view substantially perpendicular to the vertical field of view;
- a lens covering the lens opening of the spherical shroud;
- a motion detection unit mounted within the spherical shroud, the motion detection unit having an optical field of view for motion detection through the lens, wherein the optical field of view for motion detection includes the horizontal field of view and the vertical field of view;
- and
- wherein the vertical field of view of the motion detection unit is limited by at least a first input restriction structure, the horizontal field of view at least twice the vertical field of view.
