Abstract
Fluid coupling devices can be used to provide fluid passage connections in fluid systems. Some fluid coupling devices are configured for use in fluid systems for the purpose of providing a sterile connection by which fluid can be transferred in a sterile manner. Such a sterile connection can be useful for the delivery and/or processing of therapeutic agents, or ingredients thereof, and other purposes.
Claims20
A fluid coupling device comprising:
- a housing defining an internal space and a longitudinal central axis;
- a valve member disposed within the internal space;
- and
- one or more projections extending through one or more openings defined by the housing and engaging the valve member to thereby retain the valve member in a first position within the internal space,
- wherein the first position is a closed position that blocks fluid flow through the fluid coupling device, and
- wherein the valve member is configured to, in response to disengagement of the one or more projections from the valve member, move from the closed position to an open position that allows fluid flow through the fluid coupling device.
