Abstract
An aqueous NFC containing tail-seal adhesive includes: (a) water; (b) nanofibrillated cellulose; and (c) one or more of: (i) a water-soluble cellulose derivative; or (ii) a water soluble polyol; or (iii) a viscosity modifier other than a water soluble cellulose derivative.
Claims14
An aqueous nanofibrillated cellulose (NFC)-containing tail-seal adhesive, comprising:
- greater than 90 wt % water and a solids content consisting essentially of:
- (a) nanofibrillated cellulose;
- (b) a water soluble cellulose derivative, wherein the water soluble cellulose derivative is other than carboxymethylcellulose (CMC);
- (c) a water soluble polyol;
- and
- (d) optionally a viscosity modifier other than the water soluble cellulose derivative, wherein the viscosity modifier other than the water soluble cellulose derivative, when present, is selected from xanthan gum, carboxymethylcellulose (CMC), and pectin and is effective to reduce the viscosity of the aqueous NFC-containing tail-seal adhesive;
- wherein:
- (i) if the viscosity modifier other than the water soluble cellulose derivative is not present, the water soluble cellulose derivative and the water soluble polyol are present in an aggregate amount of from 1.5 wt % to 7 wt % based on the total weight of the adhesive;
- and
- (ii) if the viscosity modifier other than the water soluble cellulose derivative is present, the water soluble cellulose derivative and the water soluble polyol are present in an aggregate amount of from 1 wt % to 5 wt % based on the total weight of the adhesive and the viscosity modifier other than the water soluble cellulose derivative is present in an amount of from 0.25% to 3 wt % based on the total weight of the adhesive.
