Self-interferometry based sensor systems capable of generating depth maps or velocity maps

A sensor system, comprising:

• at least one self-mixing interferometry sensor operable to emit at least one beam of electromagnetic radiation;
• one or more lenses positioned to receive the at least one beam of electromagnetic radiation and direct the at least one beam of electromagnetic radiation into a set of multiple electromagnetic radiation emission regions;
• and
• a processor configured to generate a velocity map for the different electromagnetic radiation emission regions, the velocity map including a two-dimensional array of velocities of objects, portions of objects, a medium, or portions of mediums within a field of view;
• wherein:
• the at least one self-mixing interferometry sensor outputs multiple sinusoidally-modulated electromagnetic radiation waveforms;
• and
• the one or more lenses direct different electromagnetic radiation waveforms of the multiple sinusoidally-modulated electromagnetic radiation waveforms into different electromagnetic radiation emission regions of the set of multiple electromagnetic radiation emission regions;
• and
• the processor generates the velocity map in response to a set of modulated outputs of the at least one self-mixing interferometry sensor.
