Channel quality information feedback techniques

A method for a base station, comprising:

• receiving a channel quality indicator (CQI) index, wherein the CQI index is based on a channel state information (CSI) reference signal (CSI-RS), a channel state information interference measurement (CSI-IM) resource, and a CSI reference resource of a downlink shared channel based on no resource elements of the CSI reference resource being allocated to an enhanced physical downlink control channel (EPDCCH) or a physical broadcast channel (PBCH);
• selecting a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) for a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) based on the CQI index;
• and
• transmitting the PDSCH based on the selected MCS.

An apparatus for a base station, comprising:

• a radio interface;
• and
• a processor coupled to the radio interface, configured to
• receive a channel quality indicator (CQI) index, wherein the CQI index is based on a channel state information (CSI) reference resource of a downlink shared channel based on no resource elements of the CSI reference resource being allocated to an enhanced physical downlink control channel (EPDCCH) or a physical broadcast channel (PBCH),
• select a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) for a physical downlink shared channel (PDSCH) based on the CQI index, and
• cause transmission of the PDSCH based on the selected MCS via the radio interface.
