Abstract
According to one embodiment of the present invention, a structure includes: a substrate having a patterned surface of one or more binding sites; and a molecular shape made by a polynucleotide platform having a shape corresponding to a shape of a binding site of the one or more binding sites, the molecular shape being bound to one of the one or more binding sites.
Claims19
A structure comprising:
- a substrate having a patterned surface of a plurality of binding sites and a nonbinding background, each of the plurality of binding sites having:
- a binding site shape that is rotationally asymmetric around an axis perpendicular to the patterned surface;
- and
- a first orientation direction defined along the plane of the patterned surface and relative to the binding site shape,
- wherein the first orientation direction of a first binding site of the plurality of binding sites is fixed, relative to the substrate, and is different than the first orientation direction of a second binding site of the plurality of binding sites;
- and
- a molecular shape comprising polynucleotides generated by a polynucleotide platform having:
- a shape corresponding to the binding site shape;
- and
- a second orientation direction defined relative to the shape of the molecular shape,
- the molecular shape being bound to the substrate and having a higher binding affinity for the plurality of binding sites when the second orientation direction is aligned with the first orientation direction than for a binding site having a misaligned first orientation with respect to the second orientation direction or for the nonbinding background in any orientation.
