Abstract
A variable compression ratio device is configured to be incorporated into an internal combustion engine. The internal combustion engine includes one or more cylinders housing pistons that are coupled to a crankshaft. The variable compression ratio device includes a rotation coupler assembly formed by gears that have internal and external teeth, the rotation coupler assembly being disposed at a distal end of the crankshaft to cause the crankshaft to rotate. Translation variations of the crankshaft are to be converted into rotation and transmitted to at least one of a toothed gear or a flange of a flywheel.
Claims19
A device configured to enable a variable compression ratio of an internal combustion engine, the device comprising:
- a first rotation coupler assembly disposed at a first distal end of a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine and a second rotation coupler assembly disposed at a second distal end of the crankshaft, wherein each of the first rotation coupler assembly and the second rotation coupler assembly are individually formed by a first gear having internal teeth and a second gear having external teeth, wherein translation variations of the crankshaft are to be converted into rotation, and wherein rotation of the crankshaft is to be transmitted to a toothed gear by the first rotation coupler assembly and to a flywheel by the second rotation coupler assembly.
A device configured to be incorporated into an internal combustion engine to variably alter a compression ration of the internal combustion engine, the device comprising:
- a first rotation coupler assembly disposed at a first distal end of a crankshaft of the internal combustion engine, wherein the first rotation coupler assembly comprises a first set of gears having internal and external teeth;
- and
- a second rotation coupler assembly disposed at a second distal end of the crankshaft of the internal combustion engine, wherein the second rotation coupler assembly comprises a second set of gears having internal and external teeth, wherein a turn of the crankshaft is configured to turn a flywheel via the second rotation coupler assembly or a toothed gear via the first rotation coupler assembly.
An internal combustion engine comprising:
- a crankshaft;
- one or more cylinders housing pistons that are coupled to the crankshaft;
- and
- a variable compression ratio device comprising:
- a first rotation coupler assembly disposed at a first distal end of the crankshaft, wherein the first rotation coupler assembly comprises a first gear having internal teeth and a second gear having external teeth;
- and
- a second rotation coupler assembly disposed at a second distal end of the crankshaft, wherein the second rotation coupler assembly comprises a third gear having internal teeth and a fourth gear having external teeth,
- wherein translation variations of the crankshaft are to be converted into rotation and transmitted to a toothed gear by the first rotation coupler assembly and a flywheel by the second rotation coupler assembly.
