Abstract
A pigment, including a magnetizable reflector layer including an intermetallic compound, wherein the intermetallic compound is a crystal structure of at least two different elemental metals chemically bonded together is disclosed. A pigment, including a semi-transparent absorber layer including an intermetallic compound, wherein the intermetallic compound is a crystal structure of at least two different elemental metals chemically bonded together is disclosed. A method of making the pigment is also disclosed.

A pigment, comprising:
- a magnetizable reflector layer including an intermetallic compound, wherein the intermetallic compound is a crystal structure of at least two different elemental metals chemically bonded together,
- wherein the intermetallic compound is selected from the group consisting of CoAs2, NiSb, ZrNi, Zr2Ni, Zr3Fe, TbAl, Tb2Al, FexSiyAlz (x=85%, y=9%, z=6%), TbxDy1-xFe2 (x˜0.3), AlGd, AlGd2, TbPtGa, La2Co17-xTax in which x is 0.5 or 0.6, HoCo2B2C, GdNi2B2C, ErCo2B2C, and (Y1-xGdx)Ni2B2C;
- and
- wherein the pigment has a structure of:
- first absorber layer/dielectric layer/the magnetizable reflector layer including an intermetallic compound/dielectric layer/second absorber layer.

- a semi-transparent absorber layer including an intermetallic compound, wherein the intermetallic compound is a crystal structure of at least two different elemental metals chemically bonded together;
- wherein the intermetallic compound is selected from the group consisting of CoAs2, NiSb, Cu3As, ZrNi, Zr2Ni, Zr3Fe, TiZn, Ti2Zn, TiZn2, TbAl, Tb2Al, TbxDy1-xFe2 (x˜0.3), TbPtGa, La2Co17-xTax in which x is 0.5 or 0.6, HoCo2B2C, GdNi2B2C, ErCo2B2C, and (Y1-xGdx)Ni2B2C,
- wherein the pigment has a structure of:
- semi-transparent absorber layer including an intermetallic compound/dielectric layer/reflector layer/dielectric layer/semi-transparent absorber layer including an intermetallic compound.
