Abstract
A method of waste treatment includes treating partially-dewatered matrix with a first electron-beam radiation dose. The treated partially-dewatered matrix is transferred to a digester where the treated partially-dewatered matrix is subjected to anaerobic digestion. Biogas is recovered from the treated partially-dewatered matrix during the anaerobic digestion. The treated partially-dewatered matrix is dried and subjected to a second electron-beam radiation dose.
Claims20
A method of waste treatment, the method comprising:
- treating a partially dewatered matrix with a first electron beam radiation dose;
- drying the treated partially dewatered matrix to form a fully dewatered matrix;
- treating the fully dewatered matrix with a second electron beam radiation dose;
- condensing vapor formed from the second treating step;
- and
- recovering methane from condensed vapor.
A system for waste treatment, the system comprising:
- a first source of electron beam radiation for treating a partially dewatered matrix;
- a dewatering stage positioned downstream of the first source of electron beam radiation;
- and
- a second source of electron beam radiation positioned downstream of the dewatering stage;
- and
- a condenser positioned downstream of the second source of electron beam radiation.
