Abstract
The present invention relates to an improved process for the synthesis of lofexidine, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, using an aluminium alkoxide as Lewis acid.
Claims15
A process for preparing lofexidine, the compound of formula (1), or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt thereof, which comprises the step of:
- a) converting a compound of formula (3) into lofexidine in a solvent in the presence of an aluminium alkoxide of formula Al(OR2)3,
- wherein R2 is an alkyl having 1 to 11 carbon atoms, and
- b) optionally converting the lofexidine into a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.
