Abstract
A biodegradable paper laminate comprising a water-dispersible barrier against permeation.
Claims45
A biodegradable paper barrier laminate comprising:
- a) a biodegradable paper layer having an outer surface and an inner surface;
- b) a first biodegradable polymeric layer, having a thickness from about 1 μm to about 5 μm and having an outer surface and an inner surface, said outer surface disposed on said inner surface of said paper layer;
- c) a water-dispersible barrier layer comprising 96 wt. % to 100 wt. % hydrophilic nanoplatelets comprising sodium cloisite, having an outer surface and an inner surface, said outer surface disposed on said inner surface of said first biodegradable polymeric layer;
- d) a second biodegradable polymeric layer having an outer surface and an inner surface, said outer surface disposed on said inner surface of said water-dispersible barrier layer;
- wherein each layer and the entire biodegradable paper barrier laminate achieves at least 60% biodegradation within 60 days in the OECD 301B test.
