Abstract
Provided is a medical suction device including a compressible object including a surface, an opening in the surface, and a lumen defined by the surface and the opening, along with a tubular member located inside the compressible object. Also provided is a medical suction apparatus including the medical suction device and a catheter dimensioned to fit inside the tubular member of the device. A method of removing liquid from the throat of a subject using the medical suction apparatus is also provided, as well as kits including the medical suction device.
Claims25
A medical suction device, comprising:
- a compressible object;
- and
- a tubular member located inside the compressible object and comprising a first end, a middle section and a second end,
- wherein the first end comprises a first hole located at the opening and the second end comprises a second hole,
- wherein the compressible object comprises:
- (i) a surface;
- (ii) an opening in the surface;
- (iii) an internal lumen completely defined by the surface and the opening;
- (iv) a reservoir comprising a first space;
- and
- (v) a non-reservoir space located between a part of the compressible object opposite the opening and a plane containing the second hole and oriented perpendicular to the tubular member,
- wherein an interior surface of the middle section adjacent to the second hole comprises:
- (i) one or more ribs dimensioned to receive and hold a ribbed tip of a catheter, or (ii) threading dimensioned to receive and hold a threaded tip of a catheter,
- wherein the first space is located between the surface of the compressible object and the middle section,
- wherein the first space is located between the surface of the compressible object and the plane containing the second hole and oriented perpendicular to the tubular member,
- wherein the first space is located between the middle section and the plane containing the second hole and oriented perpendicular to the tubular member,
- wherein the lumen of the compressible object is in fluid communication with a second space outside the compressible object through the tubular member, and
- wherein the opening is a blind hole.
