Abstract
Aspects of the present disclosure configure a system component, such as memory sub-system controller, to dynamically generate Redundant Array of Independent Nodes (RAIN) parity information for zone-based memory allocations. The RAIN parity information is generated for a given zone or set of zones on the basis of whether the given zone or set of zones satisfy a zone completeness criterion. The zone completeness criterion can represent a specified size such that when a given zone reaches the specified size, the parity information for that zone is generated.
Claims19
A system comprising:
- one or more memory components;
- and
- a processing device coupled to the one or more memory components and configured to perform operations comprising:
- writing a set of user data to a zone of a plurality of zones;
- deferring performance of any error-correction parity calculations on the set of user data written to non-volatile storage locations of the one or more memory components comprising the zone until a zone completeness criterion is satisfied;
- generating tracking data that identifies a set of zones associated with error correction parity data stored in a temporary storage location;
- and
- generating, using the tracking data, a set of error correction parity data by performing a set of error-correction parity calculations for the zone using the set of user data written to the one or more memory components responsive to determining that the zone completeness criterion has been satisfied.
A method comprising:
- writing a set of user data to a zone of a plurality of zones;
- deferring performance of any error-correction parity calculations on the set of user data written to non-volatile storage locations of one or more memory components comprising the zone until a zone completeness criterion is satisfied;
- generating tracking data that identifies a set of zones associated with error correction parity data stored in a temporary storage location;
- and
- generating, using the tracking data, a set of error correction parity data by performing a set of error-correction parity calculations for the zone using the set of user data written to the one or more memory components responsive to determining that the zone completeness criterion has been satisfied.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions that, when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to perform operations comprising:
- writing a set of user data to a zone of a plurality of zones;
- deferring performance of any error-correction parity calculations on the set of user data written to non-volatile storage locations of one or more memory components comprising the zone until a zone completeness criterion is satisfied;
- generating tracking data that identifies a set of zones associated with error correction parity data stored in a temporary storage location;
- and
- generating, using the tracking data, a set of error correction parity data by performing a set of error-correction parity calculations for the zone using the set of user data written to the one or more memory components responsive to determining that the zone completeness criterion has been satisfied.
