Loom and method for guiding a woven fabric in a loom

A weaving machine, comprising:

• a shed forming device that opens and closes a loom shed formed by a plurality of warp threads of a fabric being woven by the weaving machine;
• a weft insertion device that inserts weft threads through the open loom shed;
• a weaving reed that beats up the weft threads at a beat up plane against an edge of the woven fabric;
• a drawing off device that draws off the woven fabric;
• a guide device comprising one or both of:
• (a) an upper guide unit with a guide section that contacts an upper surface of the woven fabric;
• and
• (b) a lower guide unit with a guide section that contacts a bottom surface of the woven fabric;
• the upper and lower guide units extending at least partially over a width of the woven fabric;
• one or both of the upper and lower guide units positionable in a direction of thickness of the woven fabric to contact and guide the woven fabric in an area of the beat up plane;
• and
• the guide section of one or both of the upper and lower guide units comprising a profiled shape in a weft direction to guide the woven fabric at different thicknesses in the weft direction.
