Abstract
A neurovascular catheter is provided, such as for distal neurovascular access or aspiration. The catheter includes an elongate flexible tubular body, having a proximal end, a distal end and a side wall defining a central lumen. The side wall includes a tubular inner liner, a tie layer separated from the central lumen by the inner liner, a helical coil at least partially overlapping the tie layer, and a tubular braid. A first section of adjacent windings of the helical coil can be spaced farther apart from each other than a second section of adjacent windings of the helical coil.
Claims19
An enhanced flexibility neurovascular catheter comprising:
- an elongate flexible body comprising a side wall defining a central lumen, the side wall comprising:
- a tubular inner liner;
- a tie layer separated from the central lumen by the inner liner;
- a helical coil at least partially overlapping the tie layer, the helical coil comprising a plurality of windings, the plurality of windings comprising a first section of adjacent windings and a second section of adjacent windings, the first section of adjacent windings being spaced farther apart from each other than the second section of adjacent windings, the first section of adjacent windings being located in a distal direction relative to the second section of adjacent windings;
- and
- a tubular braid being at least partially located in a proximal direction relative to the helical coil;
- and
- an outer jacket at least partially overlapping the helical coil and the tubular braid, the outer jacket comprising:
- a first section comprising a first durometer equal to or less than about 35D, the first section positioned at a distalmost end of the elongate flexible body;
- a second section comprising a second durometer of at least about 60D;
- and
- a third section being located between the first section and the second section, the third section comprising a plurality of tubular segments, each tubular segment of the plurality of tubular segments comprising a durometer between the first durometer and the second durometer, a first tubular segment of the plurality of tubular segments being located in a distal direction relative to a second tubular segment of the plurality of tubular segments, the first tubular segment comprising a durometer less than a durometer of the second tubular segment.
An enhanced flexibility catheter comprising:
- an elongate flexible body comprising a side wall defining a central lumen, the side wall comprising:
- a tubular inner liner;
- a tie layer separated from the central lumen by the inner liner;
- a helical coil at least partially overlapping the tie layer;
- and
- a tubular braid being at least partially located in a proximal direction relative to the helical coil;
- and
- an outer jacket at least partially overlapping the helical coil and the tubular braid;
- wherein a flexibility profile of the elongate flexible body is measurable with a three point flexural test with a 1-inch length and 2 mm displacement to determine a flexural load value, and wherein:
- a distalmost end of the elongate flexible body comprises a first flexural load value;
- a proximal end of the elongate flexible body comprises a second flexural load value greater than the first flexural load value;
- and
- a transition region of the elongate flexible body located between the distalmost end and the proximal end comprises a third flexural load value between the first flexural load value and the second flexural load value.
