Method and device for polar code encoding and decoding

A decoding apparatus, comprising

• a receiver configured to receive a signal containing N signal values;
• at least one processor configured to:
• apply, at a first position, a window of length M to the received signal containing N signal values, where M and N are integers greater than 0, and M<N;
• decode a first sub-input vector using a polar code and first channel likelihoods based on signal values obtained from the window at the first position;
• shift the window position to a second position;
• obtain second channel likelihoods based on the signal values from the window at the second position and the decoded first sub-input vector;
• and
• decode a second sub-input vector using the polar code and the second channel likelihoods,
• wherein the number of first and second channel likelihoods obtained is M/2 and the polar code has a polar transformation matrix of size M/2.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium comprising instructions, which when executed by a computer, cause the computer to:

• apply, at a first position, a window of length M to a received signal containing N signal values, where M and N are integers greater than 0, and M<N;
• decode a first sub-input vector using a polar code and first channel likelihoods based on signal values obtained from the window at the first position;
• shift the window position to a second position;
• obtain second channel likelihoods based on the signal values from the window at the second position and the decoded first sub-input vector;
• and
• decode a second sub-input vector using the polar code and the second channel likelihoods,
• wherein the number of first and second channel likelihoods obtained is M/2 and the polar code has a polar transformation matrix of size M/2.
