Abstract
Electro-photonic networks, including a plurality of processing elements connected by bidirectional photonic channels, suited for implementing neural-network models. Weights of the model may be preloaded into memory of the processing elements based on assignments of neural nodes to processing elements implementing them, and routers of the processing elements can be configured to stream activations between the processing elements based on a predetermined flow of activations in the model.
Claims27
A method comprising:
- receiving, in a system comprising processing elements of an electro-photonic network, a schedule of communications, wherein communications according to the schedule are to be transmitted over unidirectional photonic links of the electro-photonic network, the electro-photonic network comprising a plurality of bidirectional photonic channels, at least one bidirectional photonic channel having two or more unidirectional photonic links in each of two opposite transmission directions;
- and
- deactivating one or more unidirectional photonic links having bandwidth that is not needed according to the schedule.
An apparatus comprising:
- a system comprising an electro-photonic network, the electro-photonic network comprising processing elements and at least two bidirectional photonic channels;
- wherein at least one processing element of the system is connected to at least one other processing element of the system by a respective bidirectional photonic channel;
- wherein each bidirectional photonic channel has two or more unidirectional photonic links in each of two opposite transmission directions;
- wherein the system is operable to receive a schedule of communications, wherein communications according to the schedule are to be transmitted over the electro-photonic network;
- and
- wherein the system is operable to deactivate one or more unidirectional photonic links having bandwidth that is not needed according to the schedule.
