Abstract
A progressing cavity device includes a stator including a first end, a second end, and an inner surface formed from a metallic material that extends between the first end and the second end, and a rotor rotatably disposed in the stator, the stator including a first end, a second end, and an outer surface formed from a metallic material that extends between the first end and the second end, wherein the outer surface of the rotor contacts the inner surface of the stator, wherein the inner surface of the stator includes a conical taper extending between the first end and the second end, wherein the outer surface of the rotor includes a conical taper extending between the first end and the second end.
Claims8
A progressing cavity device, comprising:
- a stator having a fixed longitudinal axis and comprising a first end, a second end, and an inner surface formed from a metallic material that extends between the first end and the second end;
- a rotor rotatably disposed in the stator whereby a longitudinal axis of the rotor is permitted to rotate eccentrically relative to the fixed longitudinal axis of the stator, the rotor comprising a first end, a second end, and an outer surface formed from a metallic material that extends between the first end and the second end, wherein the outer surface of the rotor contacts the inner surface of the stator;
- and
- a thrust bearing positioned at at least one of the first end and the second end of the rotor and which resists axially directed loads applied to the rotor and to define a position of the rotor along the longitudinal axis of the stator, wherein the thrust bearing comprises a contact surface in contact with the rotor and which is axially adjustable to position the rotor between one of a plurality of separate axial positions spaced along the longitudinal axis of the stator;
- wherein the inner surface of the stator comprises a conical taper extending between the first end and the second end;
- wherein the outer surface of the rotor comprises a conical taper extending between the first end and the second end.
