Abstract
Pharmaceutical compositions of the invention comprise functionalized lactone derivatives having a disease-modifying action in the treatment of diseases associated with dysregulation of 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 7 activity.

A compound having formula (XXV):
- or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein:
- R2d is
- R1a, R1b, R1c, R1d, and R1e are at each occurrence independently selected from the group consisting of H, halogen, CN, C1-6 linear alkyl, and C1-6 linear alkoxy;
- and
- R3 is optionally substituted phenyl.
