Abstract
A system and method for a hybrid detector for a computed tomography (CT) system are provided that include a semiconductor detector arranged to generate photon-counting CT data upon receiving x-rays and a scintillator detector arranged proximate to the semiconductor detector to receive scattered x-rays and generate energy-integrating CT data upon receiving the scattered x-rays.
Claims22
A computed tomography (CT) medical imaging system comprising:
- an x-ray source configured to deliver x-rays to an object as the x-ray source is rotated about the object;
- a hybrid detector comprising:
- a semiconductor detector arranged to generate photon-counting CT data upon receiving x-rays;
- and
- a scintillator detector arranged proximate to the semiconductor detector to receive x-rays scattered from within the semiconductor detector and generate energy-integrating CT data upon receiving the x-rays scattered from within the semiconductor detector;
- and
- a processor configured to use the energy-integrating CT data jointly with the photon-counting data to increase total radiation dose efficiency over the photon-counting data alone.

A hybrid detector for a computed tomography (CT) system comprising:
- a semiconductor detector arranged to generate photon-counting CT data upon receiving x-rays;
- and
- a scintillator detector arranged proximate to the semiconductor detector to receive x-rays scattered from within the semiconductor detector and generate energy-integrating CT data upon receiving the x-rays scattered from within the semiconductor detector.
A detector array for a computed tomography (CT) system comprising:
- a plurality of photon-counting detector elements configured to receive x-rays delivered to an object as an x-ray source is rotated about the object and, in response to receiving x-rays, generate photon-counting CT data;
- and
- a plurality of energy-integrating detector elements arranged to receive x-rays scattered within the plurality of photon-counting detector elements and, in response to receiving x-rays scattered within the plurality of photon-counting detector elements, generate energy-integrating CT data.
