A surgical staple, comprising:
- (a) a bioabsorbable frame including a crown and a pair of legs integrally connected with the crown;
- and
- (b) a bioabsorbable coating disposed on the bioabsorbable frame such that a first portion of each leg includes the bioabsorbable coating and a second portion of each leg omits the bioabsorbable coating, wherein the bioabsorbable coating is configured to delay bioabsorption of the bioabsorbable frame when the surgical staple is implanted in tissue.
A surgical staple, comprising:
- (a) a crown;
- (b) a pair of legs integrally connected with and extending away from the crown, wherein the crown and the legs are bioabsorbable;
- and
- (c) a bioabsorbable coating disposed on the legs such that a first portion of each leg includes the bioabsorbable coating and a second portion of each leg omits the bioabsorbable coating, wherein the bioabsorbable coating is configured to delay bioabsorption of the legs when the surgical staple is implanted in tissue.

A surgical staple assembly, comprising:
- (a) a staple including:
- (i) a crown,
- (ii) a pair of legs integrally connected with the crown, wherein each of the legs terminates at a tip, and
- (iii) a bioabsorbable coating disposed on the legs such that a first portion of each leg includes the bioabsorbable coating and a second portion of each leg omits the bioabsorbable coating;
- and
- (b) an adjunct through which the legs of the staple are configured to extend when the staple is applied to tissue, wherein the adjunct is configured to reside between the crown and the tips of the staple when the legs are formed in the tissue.
