Abstract
Provided herein are consumable compositions for methane reduction in ruminants comprising a haloalkane and a medium chain triglyceride (MCT). The use of MCT in the consumable compositions has been found to enhance the anti-methanogenic effect of the consumable compositions in ruminants. Also provided herein are methods of preparing the consumable composition and methods of administering the consumable compositions to ruminants.
Claims20
A consumable composition for methane reduction in a ruminant, comprising:
- a) bromoform, in an amount of about 0.001 wt % to about 8 wt %;
- b) a medium chain triglyceride (MCT), in an amount of about 3 wt % to about 10 wt %;
- and
- c) a plant-based oil, wherein a ratio of the MCT to the plant-based oil is about 3:97 to about 50:100;
- wherein the bromoform is not derived from a biomass, and wherein the consumable composition reduces methane production more than an otherwise identical composition that lacks MCT.
