Abstract
An obtaining unit obtains a plurality of first pixel values and a plurality of second pixel values generated by an image sensor and corresponding to a plurality of pixels. A first gain is applied to each of the plurality of first pixel values and a second gain greater than the first gain is applied to each of the plurality of second pixel values. An encoding unit encodes each of a plurality of target pixel values on the basis of a correlation with a reference pixel value corresponding to a same pixel among a plurality of reference pixel values. The plurality of target pixel is one of the plurality of first pixel values and the plurality of second pixel values, and the plurality of reference pixel values is the other of the plurality of first pixel values and the plurality of second pixel values.

An encoding apparatus comprising:
- a memory and at least one processor which function as a plurality of units comprising:
- (1) an obtaining unit configured to obtain a plurality of first pixel values and a plurality of second pixel values generated by an image sensor and corresponding to a plurality of pixels, a first gain being applied to each of the plurality of first pixel values and a second gain greater than the first gain being applied to each of the plurality of second pixel values;
- and
- (2) an encoding unit configured to (a) encode the plurality of first pixel values and the plurality of second pixel values, respectively, the plurality of first pixel values and the plurality of second pixel values corresponding to a same plurality of pixels, and (b) output the plurality of first pixel values that have been encoded and the plurality of second pixel values that have been encoded,
- wherein the encoding unit;
- (a) encodes each pixel of one plurality of pixel values of (i) the plurality of first pixel values and (ii) the plurality of second pixel values on the basis of a correlation with a reference pixel value corresponding to a same pixel among another plurality of pixel values of (i) the plurality of first pixel values and (ii) the plurality of second pixel values;
- and (b) encodes each pixel of the another plurality of pixel values based on the another plurality of pixel values, not based on the one plurality of pixel values.
An encoding method executed by an encoding apparatus, the method comprising:
- obtaining a plurality of first pixel values and a plurality of second pixel values generated by an image sensor and corresponding to a plurality of pixels, a first gain being applied to each of the plurality of first pixel values and a second gain greater than the first gain being applied to each of the plurality of second pixel values;
- and
- encoding the plurality of first pixel values and the plurality of second pixel values, respectively, the plurality of first pixel values and the plurality of second pixel values corresponding to a same plurality of pixels;
- and
- outputting the plurality of first pixel values that have been encoded and the plurality of second pixel values that have been encoded,
- wherein the encoding comprises (a) encoding each pixel of of one plurality of pixel values of (i) the plurality of first pixel values and (ii) the plurality of second pixel values on the basis of a correlation with a reference pixel value corresponding to a same pixel among another plurality of pixel values of (i) the plurality of first pixel values and (ii) the plurality of second pixel values;
- and (b) encoding each pixel of the another plurality of pixel values based on the another plurality of pixel values, not based on the one plurality of pixel values.
A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium which stores a program for causing a computer to execute an encoding method, the method comprising:
- obtaining a plurality of first pixel values and a plurality of second pixel values generated by an image sensor and corresponding to a plurality of pixels, a first gain being applied to each of the plurality of first pixel values and a second gain greater than the first gain being applied to each of the plurality of second pixel values;
- and
- encoding the plurality of first pixel values and the plurality of second pixel values, respectively, the plurality of first pixel values and the plurality of second pixel values corresponding to a same plurality of pixels;
- and
- outputting the plurality of first pixel values that have been encoded and the plurality of second pixel values that have been encoded,
- wherein the encoding comprises (a) encoding each pixel of of one plurality of pixel values of (i) the plurality of first pixel values and (ii) the plurality of second pixel values on the basis of a correlation with a reference pixel value corresponding to a same pixel among another plurality of pixel values of (i) the plurality of first pixel values and (ii) the plurality of second pixel values;
- and (b) encoding each pixel of the another plurality of pixel values based on the another plurality of pixel values, not based on the one plurality of pixel values.
