Abstract
A method for forming a ceramic-based material comprises depositing a ceramic-precursor composition comprising nanoparticles having at least one dimension less than 100 nm and an aspect ratio of 1.5 or greater, and a carrier fluid on a surface of a substrate to form an as-deposited layer of the ceramic precursor composition; and sintering the as-deposited layer of the ceramic precursor composition at a sintering temperature to form a ceramic-based material.

A method for forming a ceramic-based material, the method comprising:
- (a) depositing a composition comprising nanoparticles having at least one dimension less than 100 nm and an aspect ratio of 1.5 or greater, and a carrier fluid on a surface of a substrate to form an as-deposited layer of the composition, wherein the nanoparticles are selected from a group consisting of WO3, ceria, hafnia, titania, and combinations thereof, and further wherein the carrier fluid is an inorganic ionic liquid consisting of inorganic ions and having a melting point at or below room temperature;
- and
- (b) sintering the as-deposited layer at a sintering temperature to form a ceramic-based material.
A method for forming a ceramic-based material, the method comprising:
- (a) depositing a composition comprising nanoparticles having at least one dimension less than 100 nm and an aspect ratio of 1.5 or greater, and a carrier fluid on a surface of a substrate to form an as-deposited layer of the composition, wherein the deposition is carried out using layer-by-layer deposition to provide an as-deposited multilayer structure consisting of the composition, wherein the nanoparticles are selected from a group consisting of WO3, ceria, hafnia, titania, and combinations thereof, wherein the carrier fluid is an inorganic ionic liquid consisting of inorganic ions and having a melting point at or below room temperature, and wherein the inorganic ionic liquid is selected from metal halides, thiocyanate salts, and combinations thereof;
- and
- (b) sintering the as-deposited layer at a sintering temperature to form a ceramic-based material.
