Abstract
Methods and apparatuses for positioning of dental imaging devices, such as X-rays, CTs and ultrasound imaging devices. These methods and apparatuses may use an initial intraoral scan of a patient's dentition taken, e.g., using a visible light and/or infrared source, and generate an imaging plan and/or guide(s) for taking one or more penetrative images, such as X-ray images, of the patient's dentition using the intraoral scan data.
Claims10
A system comprising:
- one or more processors;
- a memory coupled to the one or more processors, the memory configured to store computer-program instructions, that, when executed by the one or more processors, perform a computer-implemented method comprising:
- receiving a non-penetrating scan of a patient's dentition;
- determining a three-dimensional (3D) model of the patient's dentition based on the non-penetrating scan;
- identifying, from the 3D model one or more of:
- a position of a patient's teeth and a position of a dental restoration;
- determining, using the 3D model, one or more positions for orienting an x-ray apparatus for x-raying the patient's teeth in order to avoid interference from one or more of:
- adjacent teeth and the dental restoration;
- and
- guiding a user in taking one or more x-rays using the determined one or more positions for orienting an x-ray apparatus.

A system comprising:
- one or more processors;
- a memory coupled to the one or more processors, the memory configured to store computer-program instructions, that, when executed by the one or more processors, perform a computer-implemented method comprising:
- receiving a scan of a patient's dentition, wherein the scan comprises a near-IR scan;
- determining, a three-dimensional (3D) model of the patient's dentition based on the near-IR scan;
- identifying, from the 3D model, tooth position and one or more of:
- a dental lesion and a dental restoration;
- determining, using the 3D model, one or more positions for orienting an x-ray apparatus for x-raying a patient's teeth, including an identified dental lesion, in order to avoid interference from the dental restoration and/or an adjacent tooth;
- and
- guiding a user in taking one or more x-rays using the determined one or more positions for orienting an x-ray apparatus.
