Abstract
Systems and methods for space configurable battery structures for electrical assemblies incorporating ion exchange materials are described. One method to construct such a battery includes preparing a battery casing for a rechargeable battery. The preparing may further include placing one or more electrode materials into the casing. A monomer or a functionalized n-mer may be prepared for polymerization. The monomer or the functionalized n-mer may be polymerized to form an ion exchange material, which is then then cross-linked. The ion exchange material may be arranged to define an interpenetrating surface with at least a portion of at least one of the electrodes.
Claims25
A method comprising:
- preparing a battery casing for a rechargeable battery, the preparing further including placing one or more electrode materials into the casing;
- preparing a monomer or a functionalized n-mer for polymerization;
- polymerizing the monomer or the functionalized n-mer to form an ion exchange material;
- cross-linking the ion exchange material;
- and
- arranging the ion exchange material to define an interpenetrating surface with at least a portion of at least one of the electrodes, wherein at least a first electrode of the electrodes is formed from an oxidized zinc metal foil and at least a second electrode of the electrodes is a brass wire mesh laminated with an anion exchange membrane, and the first electrode and the second electrode are laminated together to form a laminated electrodes stack.
A method comprising:
- coating one or more electrodes for a rechargeable battery with a monomer or a functionalized n-mer;
- polymerizing the monomer or the functionalized n-mer to form an ion exchange material;
- cross-linking the ion exchange material;
- and
- arranging the ion exchange material to define an interpenetrating surface with at least a portion of at least one of the electrodes, wherein at least a first electrode of the electrodes is formed from an oxidized zinc metal foil and at least a second electrode of the electrodes is a brass wire mesh laminated with an anion exchange membrane, and the first electrode and the second electrode are laminated together to form a laminated electrodes stack.
