Abstract
A magnetic particle testing mechanism is provided for testing for defects in an axle of a landing gear assembly. The magnetic particle testing mechanism includes a conductor mechanism. The conductor mechanism is configured to apply a magnetic particle substance onto a portion of the axle and generate a magnetic field within or around the portion of the axle. Generating the magnetic field causes a magnetic field distortion associated with a defect in the axle that attracts the magnetic particle substance indicating a location of the defect in the axle.
Claims18
A magnetic particle testing mechanism for testing for defects in an axle of a landing gear assembly, comprising:
- a conductor mechanism, wherein the conductor mechanism is configured to:
- apply a magnetic particle substance onto a portion of the axle;
- and
- generate a magnetic field within or around the portion of the axle,
- wherein generating the magnetic field causes a magnetic field distortion associated with a defect in the axle that attracts the magnetic particle substance indicating a location of the defect in the axle and wherein the conductor mechanism is a tube structure with a center void and a plurality of spray nozzles along a length of an outer casing of the tube structure.
A system for testing for defects in an axle of a landing gear assembly, comprising:
- a magnetic particle testing mechanism, the magnetic particle testing mechanism comprising:
- an axle seat configured to receive the axle, wherein the axle seat comprises:
- a base post;
- a crossbar structure coupled to the base post;
- and
- a set of “V” support structures coupled to the crossbar structure and configured to support the axle;
- and
- a conductor mechanism, wherein the conductor mechanism is configured to:
- apply a magnetic particle substance onto a portion of the axle;
- and
- generate a magnetic field within or around the portion of the axle,
- wherein generating the magnetic field causes a magnetic field distortion associated with a defect in the axle that attracts the magnetic particle substance indicating a location of the defect in the axle.
