Abstract
A loading frame includes a rectangular u-shaped frame with an opening at one side, forks extendable and retractable between the closed side and the open side of the U-shaped frame, loading frame wheels on one arm of the U-shaped frame, and a truck interface on the other arm of the U-shaped frame. The loading frame wheels and truck interface support travel of the frame in a direction other than the direction of travel of the forks between the open and closed sides of the U-shaped frame.
Claims7
A payload handler vehicle, comprising:
- a payload truck configured to travel in a travel direction;
- a loading frame configured to travel in the travel direction and having a load engagement portion configured to extend and retract in a direction transverse to the travel direction to engage and support a load, wherein the load engagement portion comprises a carriage comprising a plurality of forks configured to extend from a first position to a second position to engage the load and to retract the plurality of forks from the second position to the first position with the load supported for vehicle travel;
- and
- a carriage drive system operatively coupled to the carriage to extend and retract the plurality of forks,
- wherein the loading frame further comprises:
- a wheel-end arm, a truck-end arm, and a side member connecting the wheel-end arm to the truck-end arm, and wherein the carriage is coupled to the side member.
