Abstract
A low-force, non-displacement, micro/miniature valve and/or pump assembly is provided. A tube component having a first side port coupled to an inlet portion and a second side port coupled to an outlet portion can be selectively moved to alternatively couple the side ports to a first or second piston pump chamber. First and second pistons can be actuated after positioning the tube component to either draw in fluid or push out fluid from either the first or second piston pump chambers during each actuation of the pistons. The fluid can be drawn in from a reservoir and can be expelled to a patient for providing a dose of the fluid to the patient.
Claims20
A fluid path assembly, comprising:
- a piston pump block positioned between a first piston plate and a second piston plate, the first piston plate and the second piston plate aligned on a first central axis;
- a first needle septum and a second needle septum positioned along a second central axis, the second central axis perpendicular to the first central axis, wherein the first needle septum and the second needle septum are further positioned on opposing sides of the piston pump block along the second central axis;
- and
- a tube component aligned with respect to the second central axis and positioned through the first needle septum, the second needle septum, and the piston pump block, the tube component configured to move in directions parallel to the second central axis, wherein the first needle septum and the second needle septum are configured to be pierced by the tube component.
A valve system for a drug delivery device, comprising:
- a piston pump block having a first piston pump chamber and a second piston pump chamber;
- a first piston positioned in the first piston pump chamber;
- a second piston positioned in the second piston pump chamber, wherein the first and second pistons are moveable within the first piston pump chamber and the second piston pump chamber, respectively;
- and
- a tube component configured to move through a first septum and a second septum during operation of the valve system, the tube component having a side port, wherein the side port of the tube component is configured to receive fluid from the first piston pump chamber or the second piston pump chamber through a movement of the first or second piston, respectively.
