The present invention relates to a catalyst composition including an imidazolinium ion-based catalyst and an aluminum-based cocatalyst, and a method for preparing an isobutene-isoprene copolymer using the same.

A catalyst composition comprising a catalyst represented by the following Formula 1 and a cocatalyst represented by the following Formula 2:
- in Formula 1,
- R is an alkyl group of 2 to 12 carbon atoms,
- R1 to R6 are each independently a halogen group, and
- a to f are each independently an integer of 1 to 5,
- [Formula 2]
- (Ra)nAl(X)3−n
- in Formula 2,
- Ra is a hydrocarbon group of 1 to 20 carbon atoms,
- X is a halogen group, and
- n is an integer of 0 to 3.
