Abstract
Methods for treating cancer and/or inducing tumor regression in mammals (e.g., humans) by increasing the metabolism of the mammal, administering a BA dye to the mammal, and thereafter exposing the tumor to actinic light for activation of the BA dye.
Claims25
A method of treating a pancreatic cancer tumor in a subject comprising:
- 1) administering at least one of glucose, glucagon, corticosteroids, growth hormones, thyroid hormones and insulin, to the subject until the plasma glucose level of the subject is raised to a level above the basal plasma glucose level of the subject;
- 2) administering at least one photosensitizer selected from the group consisting of benzophenoxazinium, benzophenothiazinium, and benzophenos-elenazinium dyes to the subject;
- and thereafter
- 3) exposing the tumor to actinic light between about 10 minutes and one week after the plasma glucose level of the subject has been raised to a level above the basal plasma glucose of the subject.
The method of treating pancreatic cancer in a subject in need of such treatment which comprises i) raising the plasma glucose level of the subject to a level above the subjects basal plasma glucose level by administering at least one of glucose, glucagon, corticosteroids, growth hormones, thyroid hormones and insulin to the subject until the plasma glucose level of the subject is raised to a level above the basal plasma glucose level of the subject, ii) administering at least one photosensitizer selected from the group consisting of benzophenoxazinium, benzophenothiazinium, and benzophenoselenazinium dyes to the subject, iii) maintaining the plasma glucose level of the subject above the basal plasma glucose level of the subject until exposure of the tumor to actinic light, and iv) exposing the tumor to actinic light after the plasma glucose level of the subject has been raised to a level above the basal plasma glucose of the subject.
