Method and system for adjusting sound playback to account for speech detection

An audio system comprising:

• at least one processor;
• and
• memory having instructions stored therein which when executed by the at least one processor causes the audio system to:
• send an audio signal comprising a sound to drive a speaker of a headset that is being worn by a user,
• determine, using a plurality of microphones, a direction of arrival (DoA) of a sound source within an ambient environment in which the user is located,
• determine a direction towards which the user has performed a physical gesture, and
• adjust, responsive to determining that the direction towards which the user has performed the physical gesture is directed towards the DoA and based on audio content of the sound, the audio signal.

A headset comprising:

• a plurality of microphones;
• a speaker;
• at least one processor;
• and
• memory having instructions which when executed by the at least one processor causes the headset to:
• play back sound through the speaker of the headset that is being worn by a user;
• determine, using the plurality of microphones of the headset, a direction of arrival (DoA) of a sound source within an ambient environment in which the user is located;
• determine a direction towards which the user has performed a physical gesture;
• and
• adjust, responsive to determining that the direction towards which the user has performed the physical gesture is directed towards the DoA and based on audio content of the sound, playback of the sound.
