Abstract
A powerplant is provided for an aircraft. This aircraft powerplant includes an aircraft engine, and the aircraft ending includes a shaft and an anode. The shaft is configured to rotate about an axis. The shaft is configured from or otherwise includes a shaft material with a first anodic potential. The anode is mounted to and electrically coupled with the shaft. The anode is configured from or otherwise includes an anode material with a second anodic potential that is greater than the first anodic potential.
Claims15
A powerplant for an aircraft, comprising:
- an aircraft engine comprising a shaft and an anode;
- the shaft configured to rotate about an axis, and the shaft comprising a shaft material with a first anodic potential;
- and
- the anode mounted to and electrically coupled with the shaft, and the anode comprising an anode material with a second anodic potential that is greater than the first anodic potential;
- wherein the anode is configured as a rotational balancing weight;
- wherein the anode is disposed within a bore of the shaft.
A powerplant for an aircraft, comprising:
- an aircraft engine comprising a shaft and an anode;
- the shaft configured to rotate about an axis, and the shaft comprising a shaft material with a first anodic potential;
- and
- the anode mounted to and electrically coupled with the shaft, and the anode comprising an anode material with a second anodic potential that is greater than the first anodic potential:
- wherein the anode is one of a plurality of anodes mounted to and electrically coupled with the shaft;
- wherein the plurality of anodes are arranged circumferentially about the axis in an array;
- and
- wherein each of the plurality of anodes comprises the anode material;
- wherein the anode is disposed within a bore of the shaft.
A powerplant for an aircraft, comprising:
- a shaft configured to rotate about an axis, the shaft comprising a first metal with a first anodic potential;
- and
- an anode disposed within a bore of the shaft, the anode mounted to and in electrical contact with the shaft, and the anode comprising a second metal with a second anodic potential that is greater than the first anodic potential;
- wherein the anode is configured as a balancing cup for the shaft.
